The Department of Business Development and Technology (BTECH) at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for assistant and associate professorship positions in engineering management and manufacturing.

Both assistant and associate professors divide their time evenly between research and teaching activities, and the successful candidates will become part of the EngTech research section.

An assistant professorship is a three-year position. An associate professorship is a full-time permanent position. The starting date is 1 January 2023 or as agreed upon.

Job description

BTECH is dedicated to excellence in business development and technology and offers study programmes in these fields. The department has – given its location in the midwestern part of Denmark, also known as “Production Denmark” – a strong focus on company collaboration and applied research within the fields of manufacturing, operations, digitalisation and the green transition. Our aim is to be instrumental in forming the future of business in Denmark and beyond, and for this reason, we are looking for eminent candidates who can strengthen our research profile and engage with stakeholders in industry.

The successful applicant is furthermore expected to teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s and Master’s level. Associate professors are also expected to supervise PhD students. Most of the teaching activities will be related to the MSc in Engineering (Technology Based Business Development) study programme, but teaching in other programmes may also occur. The candidates are expected to teach courses related to production systems, manufacturing, technology management, quality management, digital systems or product design and development.

Your qualifications

Employment as an assistant professor requires a PhD degree in a relevant field.

Employment as an associate professor requires a PhD degree and a strong academic background as assistant professor or equivalent. Furthermore, the ideal candidate holds the following qualifications:
  • A proven record of strong international research, as evidenced by publications in highly reputed international journals.
  • A track record of excellence in teaching on topics relevant for our study programmes.
  • A clear, well-developed and viable strategy for future high-level research.
  • A track record of good citizenship in the wider academic community combined with commitment to contributing to a vibrant work environment in our department.
  • A commitment to sharing insights and knowledge with the broader society and prioritising dialogue with practitioners.
  • A commitment to teaching that provides the students with relevant competences as well as the ability to reflect critically on business topics.
  • A willingness to engage in external research funding activities.
Applicants are encouraged to describe how their research is important for industry. The description could include concrete collaborations, impact, dissemination activities, etc.

Non-Danish speakers are required to acquire a reasonable knowledge of the Danish language within three years. The department will grant time off from teaching to attend Danish courses during the first two years of employment.

Permanent employment as associate professor at Aarhus BSS requires completion of the supervision course as well as the Blended Learning – Go Online course provided by Centre for Educational Development. If you have not completed the courses prior to employment, continued employment will be conditional on completion of the courses within a five-year period.

BTECH is located in the business-oriented and entrepreneurial city of Herning. The department excels in business and engineering disciplines and emphasises the importance of company collaborations. We have around 1,800 students and close to 100 faculty and staff. Each year, approximately 500 students are involved in company projects in more than 250 companies ranging from SMEs to leading multinationals. Our incubator Business Factory launches 15 new companies each year.

We influence society through business development and technology. For this reason, many research projects are conducted in close collaboration with industry on the basis of new data and new technologies. These projects are generously supported by ERC, H2020, the Independent Research Fund Denmark and the Danish Industry Foundation, among others.

Terms of employment

The appointment is made in accordance with the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities as well as the circular on the Collective Agreement for Academics Employed by the State (in Danish).
