TBMI Challenge

– get help with a technological business challenge in your company

How can you strengthen your business with new technology? The TBMI Challenge is your chance to engage in unique collaboration with a small group of curious and energetic MSc in Engineering students from Aarhus University in Herning. They work with your specific business challenge and develop new ideas and solutions for direct use in your business. In 2026, we will host the corporate part of the TBMI Challenge on 25-27 March.

What is the TBMI Challenge?

The TBMI Challenge is an intensive three-day process in March/April. Three to five MSc in Engineering students will work on a specific challenge in your company.

Students combine their technological knowledge with their understanding of the world of business and do a deep dive into your operations, processes and technological possibilities. Based on analyses, they come up with a number of proposals for how you can utilise new technology, optimise processes and create more value for your customers.

The process concludes with a report and a presentation. You are presented with concrete ideas, possible solutions and actionable recommendations.

What does your business get out of it?

By participating in the TBMI Challenge, you gain new knowledge and concrete recommendations for both business opportunities and technological solutions.

The students work closely with your company and delve into your challenge to come up with solutions you may not have identified yourself.

For example, they can help with:

— optimising production and reducing waste
— automating and digitalising processes
— developing new products or prototypes
— identifying the potential of AI
— analysing data and visualising results
— exploring circular and sustainable business opportunities

At the same time, you will have a unique opportunity to meet and build relations with the technological business engineers of the future, who could potentially become your future employees.

How to participate in the TBMI Challenge

To participate, your company must contribute actively. It is simple and concrete:

  • Provide a specific business challenge involving technological elements.
  • Participate in a preparatory webinar for companies.
  • Present the challenge to the students on the first day of the challenge.
  • Make office space available so the students can work on-site during the three days.
  • Answer the students’ questions along the way.
  • Take part in the final presentation at AU Herning.
  • The supervisor will visit your company during the three days to ensure progress and quality.

All information about your company will be treated confidentially. The students work on your challenge in a safe environment, and all ideas, analyses and suggestions are for your company alone. This means you can share your challenges without concern and receive honest, valuable input.
