Labs

– this is where we develop and test new solutions together

In our labs, we turn ideas into actions. Here, our researchers and students work side by side with new technology, prototypes and test environments. This is where we experiment, train and develop solutions – often in close collaboration with industry and other partners. Our laboratories play a key role in our research, teaching and innovation.

MORE ABOUT CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT LAB

Machinery and equipment

The lab is equipped with technologies and equipment for designing prototypes and makes it possible to explore new materials, methods and machines.

  • 3D printers that can print in PLA, PET, ABS etc.
  • Laser cutter that can cut and engrave wood, cardboard and acrylic
  • Foil printer and cutter that can print and cut foil
  • Virtual reality headsets for designing and visualising large physical products
  • 3D scanner for reverse engineering, for example

Design thinking process framework

At Concept Development Lab, we also have our design thinking playroom, which we use to facilitate innovation processes in groups.

Here, we use the design thinking method – a creative method and mindset for problem-solving and developing new products, services and processes – to create concrete solutions for practical applications.

You will find the Concept Development Lab in room 3031.

MORE ABOUT PRODUCTION LAB

Equipment and workstations

Production Lab contains modern equipment such as workstations, conveyor belts, robots, sensors and 3D printers, which enable students to:

  • simulate and build complete production lines
  • program and use robots
  • work with automation and additive technologies

An experimental learning space

The aim is to create an engineering exploratorium where students dare to experiment, think independently and learn through practice. The flexible structure of Production Lab provides scope for creativity, and the teaching strengthens both technical skills and the ability to reflect critically on the use of technology.

An active research environment

Production Lab is also an active research environment where we conduct empirical studies in the following areas:

  • manufacturability
  • 3D-concurrent engineering and simulation of production processes
  • optimisation of engineering work through numerical methods
  • human-robot interaction and intelligent automation
  • integration of CAD systems and additive manufacturing

We are continuously developing the laboratory’s capabilities and invite companies and research partners to join us. If you have any suggestions for new solutions, technologies or collaborations, we would love to hear from you.

You will find Production Lab in room 3128.

MORE ABOUT PROTO* LAB

A makerspace for learning, innovation and research

PROTO* Lab is a teaching environment, innovation hub and research laboratory rolled into one. We work with technological prototyping as a method and as a way to explore, test and develop ideas.

What can you do in PROTO* Lab?

Hands-on technology

Participate in practical activities such as 3D printing, simple soldering exercises, programming and the setting-up of IoT devices. You can build everything from simple gadgets to complex prototypes with access to sensors, controllers and digital tools.

Explore technologies of the future

Try your hand at artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, drones, data analysis, app development and cloud solutions. We make facilities and equipment available so that you can explore the potential of these technologies in practice.

From idea to business model

Do you have a good idea? At PROTO* Lab, you can develop and mature it into a sustainable business model. We support digital services, networks and entrepreneurial activities that create value for society and for business and industry.

Community and collaboration

PROTO* Lab is also a network. It is a meeting place for like-minded people who are all interested in the possibilities unlocked by technology. You can join existing projects or start your own and become part of a collaborative, curious and creative environment.

Workshops, events and learning in practice

We offer regular workshops where you can acquire practical skills, develop new ideas and expand your network. PROTO* Lab is where learning happens through making, and where technology and imagination go hand in hand.

Drop in – and meet Pepper!

Want to join us? PROTO* Lab is open to anyone with an interest in technology, innovation and learning. Drop by – whether you come bearing a project, have an idea in mind or just want to say hello to our robot mascot, Pepper.

You will find PROTO* Lab in room 3122.

MORE ABOUT XR² LAB

Extended Reality and Robotics (xR²) Lab

At xR² Lab, we want to understand and document the value of immersive technologies and robots in real-world scenarios. The aim is to generate new knowledge that can be applied in practice and strengthen teaching.

Research in practice

At xR² Lab, we investigate how extended reality and robot technology can best be designed and applied in practice. We do this by, among other things:

  • investigating how VR can be used effectively in learning and training environments
  • identifying principles for the remote control (teleoperation) of robots
  • testing haptic interfaces and force-controlled robotic solutions
  • integrating user experiences and biometric data into immersive environments
  • connecting human-computer interaction with technological immersion

All our work is based on concrete cases and challenges known from industry.

Equipment and technology

xR² Lab is equipped with a wide range of advanced technologies that enable in-depth experimenting and testing.

We have VR headsets such as HTC ViVe and OCULUS, mixed-reality headsets such as Lenovo Explorer, an OptiTrack camera system for precise motion tracking, robotic arms from KUKA and Universal Robots, haptic devices such as Novint Falcon and Geomagic Touch, as well as biometric sensors and specialised analysis software.

Collaboration and networking

The lab is used by deeply committed students, researchers and practitioners from both academia and industry. In addition, the lab is part of a broad network that includes:

2025 activities

You will find the Extended Reality and Robotics (xR²) Lab in room 2114A.
