“Where the sky is the limit” is the motto of Herning. The city is known as a trade fair, culture and sports event city. It is also a business friendly university city, focusing mainly on manufacturing industry. Herning is a young city and just 170 years ago it had a population of no more than 21 people. By 1913, the population grew to 6,000 and Herning received the status of borough making it one of the youngest in Denmark.

Herning city now has 48.433 citizens, while Herning Municipality has 89.145 inhabitants. Herning is the number one exhibition city in northern Europe. Every year a large range of trade fairs are held at MCH Messecenter Herning. In addition to trade fairs, concerts and events the city is focusing its strength on business tourism.

The Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelts Museum is an artist museum built around a unique collection of the couple's works. Carl-Henning Pedersen donated several thousand of his and his wife's pictures to the city of Herning, which established the museum in 1976. The museum holds a total of more than 6000 works by the two artists.

ELIA is a big sculpture in Herning. Cronhammers giant sculpture, ELIA is a mark of the new mellenium. But the sculpture is also a manifest of the willpower and the courage to go new ways, which has embossed Herning through decades. The sculpture is in a hemispherical shape with 60 meters in diameter; above which arises a spherical cap of 11 m. From the platform – 4 columns rise 30 meters over the ground. In the centre a fifth column is mounted – a gas-torch; that at random times sends a fire column with a height of 8,4 m and a diameter of 1 m.

HEART – Herning Museum of Contemporary Art has come as a borderland between art and profession and is driven forward by the country known shirt manufacturer Aage Damgaard, who has made the foundation for the museum´s collection. With Steven Holls unique architecture as scenery, you as a guest at HEART can experience contemporary art in world-class. HEART presents exhibitions 3-4 times a year with some of the biggest contemporary Danish and international artists.
