Sofie Carsten Nielsen, the Danish Minister for Higher Education and Science, will give the opening speech at a conference at Aarhus University’s department in Herning on how AU Herning can contribute to strengthening Central and Western Jutland.
On Monday 6 October, Sofie Carsten Nielsen, the Danish Minister for Higher Education and Science, will visit AU Herning in connection with a conference on how AU Herning can contribute to strengthening Central and Western Jutland. The conference focuses on the development in Central and Western Jutland and how AU Herning may contribute to further this development in the future. Apart from giving the opening speech, Sofie Carsten Nielsen will answer questions asked by a panel of representatives from the business community and trade unions in the area. Members of the panel are Kenneth Iversen (former director of Kyocera Unimerco), Helge Albertsen (chairman of the Danish Metalworkers' Union, Dansk Metal Skjern-Ringkøbing) and Nicolai Hansen (Managing Director of KMC).
“We at AU Herning are of course very pleased that the minister is willing to take time out of her busy schedule to attend our conference. It is very important for Central and Western Jutland that we consider the work to develop the area as a collaborative effort between the business community, the public sector and the educational institutions, which may also enable us to retain a highly educated workforce in the region. At AU Herning we believe that we need to engage in a dialogue about how the stakeholders in the area can work together to secure and develop the area in the best possible way in the future,” says Head of AU Herning Jacob Kjær Eskildsen.
At the conference there will also be inspirational presentations by prominent representatives from various companies and organisations in the area as well as politicians. The purpose of the conference is to gather the relevant players and create a platform where participants can be inspired, ask questions and challenge each other – all with a view to establishing the best conditions for the development of Central and Western Jutland.
Chairman of the Regional Council Bent Hansen will also give a presentation about what the Central Denmark Region expects of AU Herning in the future. Jens Friis Bak, Medical Director of the Regional Hospital West Jutland, will give a presentation about the collaboration between universities and hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. There will also be presentations by three key representatives from the business community about what the businesses in the region expects from AU Herning in the future. The three presenters are Per H. Lauritsen (Head of Research at Siemens), Kenneth Mikkelsen (Director of the Business Development Centre Herning & Ikast-Brande) and Søren Sloth (Chairman of the Business Council Northwestern Jutland). The conference is chaired by Helge Sander, chairman of AU Herning’s external council.
The conference takes place on Monday 6 October 2014 at AU Herning.
